Thyroid gland is necessary for the regulation of the rate of our body’s metabolism. This gland is responsible for the conversion of foods into energy. All over the world, many people experience symptoms of thyroid problems. When your thyroid gland is not functioning well, you may suffer different symptoms of thyroid problems.
Two hormones are produced by the thyroid gland. One is the thyroxine-T4 that consists of four iodines and the triiodotyronine-T3 that has three iodines. Thyroxine-T4 blood levels are higher than the blood levels of triiodotyronine-T3 but triiodotyronine-T3 is said to be four times more powerful than thyroxine-T4.
The common symptoms of thyroid problems are cold intolerance or low basal temperature, weakness and fatigue, having cold feet and hands, hair loss, coarse and dry skin, insomnia, weight gain, depression, constipation, tremors and nervousness, dementia, poor memory, heavy menstrual periods and problems in the immune system.
When the thyroid system becomes inactive, hypothyroidism occurs. This means that your thyroid gland is making less thyroid hormone than your body requires. Hypothyroidism may happen if you have imbalanced diet. Usually, poor function of the thyroid can result to high levels of cholesterol.

People who have hypothyroidism are more prone to heart disease, cancer and infections. Heart disease may be caused by too much consumption of hydrogenated fats, vegetable oils, sugar, lack of minerals and vitamins such as vitamin E and vitamin C.
If you want to improve the function of your thyroid, you must take more vitamin B12 and vitamin B6. Make sure that you use natural sea salt or iodized salt. Make an effort to lessen your intake of refined carbohydrates and processed foods.
