Symptoms of Achilles Tendinitis

Also known as Tendinitis, Achilles Tendinitis is swelling, inflammation, and irritation of the Achilles tendon. The prime symptom of this condition is pain in the heel when walking or running. It is generally painful to the touch and it may be swollen or warm. Be careful with this, the condition can cause an Achilles rupture - very painful!
Achilles tendonitis affects the Achilles tendon which connects the two large calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) to the heel. When it become inflamed, the most common cause is overuse or arthritis. Treatment generally uses anti-inflammatory drugs, rest, ice, and physical therapy. A cast, brace, or boot may help keep the swelling down.
