People who suffer from addiction always crave for alcohol or drugs. They can’t decide when to stop even if their health is already at risk. Drugs that are used repeatedly impair the cognitive function of the brain thus make you unable to learn or remember. People who are addicts become dependent on it because it gives them a feeling of pleasure or satisfaction. However, addictions can be sometimes hereditary. When a child is in an environment of alcoholics, he may grow up to be like them. And also people who are neglected, abused or poor are likely to become addicts. They think drugs are the only way to escape from their problems.

When a person is suffering from an addiction there are many symptoms to be recognized. Here are the general symptoms that an individual is an addict.
• Always late or absent in school or office
• Continues to use drugs even if they have health problems
• Feeling the need to take drugs regularly
• Has failed to stop taking the substance
We all know that using drugs affect our overall health. It can be short-term or long-term. However, it depends on what drugs you have used. Here are the effects of drug abuse and addiction.
• Depression
• Nausea and vomiting
• Abortion
• HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis
• Heart problems
• High blood pressure
• Arthritis
Drug abuse and addiction have ruined the lives of many people. If you have seen someone with one of these symptoms, it is possible that he/she has an addiction. There is no cure for addiction but there are counseling and rehabilitation centers that can help the users to improve their way of life. Treating an addiction is not easy. Family and friends are the best support groups. They need people to help them be a better person.
